Reminiscent of the rise and fall of the ocean tide, the Capullo Base is etched with decorative raised leaves and three rising waves offering support and security. Designed with simple style yet elegant and calming beauty in mind, this base makes a perfect addition to add a decorative style to any poolside.
I created the Capullo in two versions. With a top, and without a top. Although they both are equally sound structurally, I just could not make up my mind on how the base would look better, so I did it both ways. The story of how this base came to fruition started about 8 years ago when I was on vacation in Denver. When I was there I visited the Denver Botanic Gardens, which is probably one of the United States' most beautiful botanic gardens.
When I was there while on a hike, I came across a very beautiful flower that had 3 petals. I don't know the name of it, as I am not an expert on flowers, but right there and then it inspired me to grab my sketchbook and create a dinning base around nature's design of the flower. It was strange to see two of the same flowers side by side, because one of them was actually fully bloomed, while the other one was still coming out of its leafy cocoon. Right there and then, I created two alternative designs.

The Capullo is one of my more intricate pieces, that feature a lot of intricate details and few straight lines. Because of this, this is one of my most challenging bases to carve.
